"The XI International Committee for Future Accelerators (ICFA) School/Workshop on Instrumentation in Elementary Particle Physics", sponsored by the ICFA Instrumentation, Innovation, and Development Panel. ICFA2010 will take place at the Institute Balseiro, Centro Atomico, Bariloche (CAB-IB), Argentina, January 11 through 22, 2010. The program will follow the usual format, but many courses have been updated to reflect recent advances in detector technology. There will be lectures given by experts in the fields of particle physics, astroparticle physics, and particle physics instrumentation. Lecture topics will include: Beyond the standard model:challenges for the new generation experiments Particle interactions with matter and detector design principles Silicon detectors and industrial applications Tracking in HEP Electromagnetic and hadronic calorimetry Particle identification Electronics & signal processing DAQ & trigger From raw data to physics results Experimental challenges and techniques for future accelerators Astroparticle physics Detectors for non-accelerator physics Organic and inorganic scintillators A number of "hands-on" laboratories will be organized in which students will participate in small groups: Silicon detectors & solar energy Ring Imaging Cerenkov Detectors Micropattern and other gaseous detectors Basic electronics CCD Characterization and Readout Deep sub-micron electronics Extreme processors for extreme experiments Telescope for cosmic ray measurements Measurement of the muon lifetime MWPC for medical applications Detectors for medical applications Control of large systems via PVSS and PLC On-line programming with Labview On-line experience with digital oscilloscopes This is a truly international event. We invite graduate students and post docs from all over the world to apply to ICFA2010. Limited travel support will be available for students coming from less industrialized parts of the world. Also, we have received a special award from the National Science Foundation in the U.S. that will enable us to provide support for air travel round-trip to Bariloche for some U.S. and Latin American student participants. Since we want to get good prices on air tickets, we have set deadlines quite far in advance of the workshop for receipt of applications and two supporting letters or recommendation, including one from your current postdoctoral or graduate student advisor. In anticipation of a large number of applications, we urge you to apply immediately to assure support from the NSF travel grant or the ICFA School account. Please indicate in your application the level of support you will require in order to attend. Our Argentine hosts will p rovide on-site housing at the Institute Balseiro free of charge for all student participants. There is every reason to believe that this school/workshop will be extremely successful, perhaps the most successful ever. The infrastructure at CAB-IB will provide excellent support for the workshop, including the lab sessions. San Carlos de Bariloche is in a beautiful part of the world. We couldn't ask for a place with better ambiance in which to hold this event.
