The Institute brings together its academic staff in six departments: Solid State, Experimental Physics, Chemical Physics, Theoretical Physics, Condensed Matter and Complex Systems. Recently seven research groups have been formed: Analysis and Materials Modification with Ions Accelerators, Bio-complexity and Networks group, Dosimetry and Medical Physics, Dynamical Properties of light beams through optical tweezers and its Applications, Optical Properties of Defects in Solids, Nuclear Experimental and High Energies, and the Nanosciences.

The Institute also has several technical support services: a specialized library, computer center, electronics shop, mechanics shop, photographic laboratory and radiation safety.

The academic-administrative responsibilities are overseeing by the Director's office. The administration of the institute goes as shown in the organizational chart.
