Abstract
A position-sensitive particle-identification detection system for heavy-ion elastic scattering measurements is described. It consists of a small one-dimensional multiwire chamber (MWC) and two multi-strip solid state detectors used in a MWC-ΔE-E telescope array. As a test, the system was used to detect projectile residues in the bombardment of 24Mg and 197Au targets with 13 MeV/amu 12C ions.
