Conference Site

The conference site for PIXE 2007 will be the Salón Barroco in the Carolino Building. It was built by the jesuits in 1578. to host the "Holly Ghost School" and now it is part of the University of Puebla. It is located in the heart of the historical quarter of Puebla City.

Puebla City

The City of Puebla is located 120 km East of Mexico City and is the capital of the state with the same name, Puebla, was founded in the mid 16th century, a few years after the conquest of Mexico by the Spaniards and it was an obligated pass between the capital of the New Spain and the Gulf of Mexico main port, Veracruz. At present day, it has a population of about one million inhabitants, and has been classified as "world heritage" by UNESCO. It has an altitude of 2,100 m above sea level, with a mild weather during the end of spring, when the rainy season is starting. Puebla, besides its amazing colonial buildings, is famous for its exquisite cuisine, arts and crafts. It is surrounded by many other interesting sites, both prehispanic and colonial, like Cholula, Tlaxcala, Tonantzintla, Cacaxtla, and Xochitecatl. Puebla has also a very active cultural life, with four major Universities, an important scientific research center, concert halls and theaters. There are several thousands of hotel rooms in Puebla, of all kinds, so all the attendants will be comfortably hosted.

Puebla State

In the territory that currently occupies the State of Puebla, with an extension of 33,919 km2, they were established villas and cities that thereinafter were converted in "Intendance of Puebla" and finally, by decree of the 3 of February of 1924, in Free and Sovereign State.

Its agricultural production, cattle raising and industrial, Puebla is important, but much more its history and indigenous culture and also its colonial art. Beautiful cities and large amusements are waiting, if is decided on visit.

The climate varies according to the region and thus we can find the climate tempered in the declivity of the Gulf, the same as in the north Saw, where rains in abundant form. In the plains, prevail the dry climate and of steppe. In the snowfall saw, the climate is tempered and wet, with temperature decreases in winter. In the valleys of Puebla City and Tepeaca, the climate is tempered and wet and in the eastern region, are registered variations that go from the tropical rainy until the polar climate in the high mountain. In Matamores and Chiautla the climate is tropical rainy and in the southern region, dry and of steppe.
