Medical Physics and Dosimetry

The Dosimetry and Medical Physics Group (DOSIFICAME) and the Biomedical Imaging Laboratory (LIBI) of the IFUNAM Department of Experimental Physics work in the area of medical physics and dosimetry. Basic and applied research is carried out and specialized human resources are trained in topics related to the interaction of ionizing radiation and ultrasound with matter, particularly in the medical and biomedical applications of this radiation radiation and the development of imaging equipment.

The members of both groups are active teachers and tutors of the Bachelor's degree of Physics and the Bachelor's degree of Biomedical Physics of the Faculty of Sciences and of the Master's of Medica Physics of the Posgraduate Degree in Physical Sciences, all from UNAM.

Group research lines are basic and applied dosimetry in medicine, drug delivery systems / radiopharmaceuticals and internal dosimetry, and acquisition radiological imaging (with particular interest in mammographic imaging) and ultrasound. LIB's line of research is the design, construction, characterization and Monte Carlo simulation of prototypes of equipment for the generation of images of animals and small objects (microPET and microCT) and for positron emission mammography (PEM).
