The attention to relevant scientific projects with implications for the attention of real problems of general interest increasingly requires a multidisciplinary approach. IFUNAM researchers constantly establish collaborations with colleagues and groups from other disciplines, in order to jointly address study topics that require inter and multidisciplinary research spaces, which allows efficient influence in areas of interest and benefit to our society.
Among many others, we mention the following examples. LANCIC develops new research and instrumentation in order to study and preserve the cultural heritage of our country. The LEMA is dedicated to the dating of objects of historical interest, as well as applications in multiple disciplines using radioactive nuclei. The medical physics groups develop various studies with an impact on medical and biomedical applications. The field of nanosciences offers the possibility of exploring applications in the design of materials with novel properties and the manufacture of nanodevices of diverse utility. IFUNAM researchers are leading the initiative to design and install a synchrotron light source in our country. We are also working on a project for the monitoring of pyramids and volcanoes by techniques based on "radiographs" of muons. In the complex systems group, various topics are analyzed that include interdisciplinary applications in biological and social sciences, among others.
