María-Ester Brandan is a University Professor at the Physics Institute of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, UNAM. Brandan's present and past research include a broad spectrum of subjects in experimental nuclear physics, radiation dosimetry, and medical physics. She was the creator and coordinator for 20 years of the UNAM M.Sc. (Medical Physics) program aimed at specializing physicists in medical applications. Brandan has participated in more than 140 scientific publications and her h-index is 30. She is a member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences, a Fellow of the American Physical Society, and a Fellow (member) of TWAS, the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World. She has been President of the Nuclear Physics and the Medical Physics Divisions of the Mexican Physics Society. In 2010-2013 she was Chair of the International Solid-State Dosimetry Organization, ISSDO. She has been awarded the Mexican Physics Society Medal for the Development of Physics in Mexico and received the UNAM 2013 Premio Universidad Nacional in the area of Research in Exact Sciences. She is a current commissioner of ICRU, the International Commission on Radiation Units & Measurements, and Editor-in-Chief of the Biomedical Physics & Engineering Express journal (IOP).
