Design Section

At present the Mechanical Design Section is headed by Hesiquio Vargas Hernández, M.Eng. If assistance is required for a mechanical design, an application must be filed through the ASIF system. In addition, an appointment with Prof. Vargas Hernández should also be scheduled to discuss design details. Once the requested design is completed, Prof. Vargas will hand it over to Prof. Veytia who will designate the staff who will undertake the work required.

Mechanical Workshop Section

Prof. Marco A. Veytia Vidaña is the coordinator for all sections. The mechanical workshop section has two technicians, four precision mechanic technicians, ten research device and equipment manufacturing technicians and a workshop foreman.

As regard machine-tools, the workshop is equipped with: 8 lathes, 4 milling machines, a table planer, 2 shaping machines, a boring machine, 2 radial drilling machines, 2 CNC machining centers, a CNC lathe, a CNC milling machine, an electro-erosion machine, a tool grinding machine, 4 grinders, portable tools and measurement and verification instrumentation. Technicians are highly skilled and capable of achieving tolerances of 0.001 in with available shop machines.

Black Brazing and Ironwork Section

This section is headed by a precision mechanic technician and has an electric welding plant and the necessary tools to carry out ironwork.

Special Welding Section

This section is headed by a precision mechanic technician and has two TIG electric welding plants, which allows welding stainless steel, aluminum and other metals.

Carpentry Section

This section staffs a carpenter and a carpentry technician. The equipment includes two circular saw blades, a wood planer, a wood lathe and the necessary tools to perform carpentry jobs required at the IFUNAM.
