Experimental Physics

Areas

  • Modification of the morphology of materials surfaces and synthesis of nanoparticles in solids using ionic beams. Also, nanometric structures ordered by lithography with nanospheres are designed and manufactured.

  • Spectroscopic characterization of cultural heritage: archaeological, geological, artistic objects, natural substances, and synthetic substances.

  • Basic investigation of the properties of dosimetric materials exposed to densely ionizing radiation, based on atomic and molecular simulations and experiments.

  • Optimization and dosimetry of preclinical imaging techniques -microPET / SPECT / CT, ultrasound- and clinical imaging -mamography, nuclear medicine, ultrasound- for the detection and treatment of diseases. Also, drug / radionuclide delivery systems and contrast media are developed in living beings.

  • Instrumentation development and implementation of molecular imaging techniques, based on new detectors and algorithms, applied to the study of small animals and the mammary gland.

  • Monte Carlo simulation (PENELOPE, GATE, EGSnrc) of ionizing radiation transport in matter and its applications in imaging and radiotherapy. Also, radiochromic and numerical film dosimetry.

  • Study of galactic and extra-galactic sources of very high energy gamma rays.

  • Study of cosmic rays at energies from 1 TeV to 1 PeV.

  • Studies on the production and interaction dynamics of cores and anticores in the international projects ALICE, AMS and ISSCREAM.

  • Development of instrumentation for nuclear studies and its various applications, including muon imaging.
